How to make a CV

Date of birth

Including your date of birth in a CV isn't advisable as it may lead to age discrimination during the hiring process, potentially hindering your chances of being considered solely based on your qualifications and experience. Additionally, it is often irrelevant information for most job applications.

Tailor it to the job

Tailoring your CV to the job you're applying for increases your chances of catching the recruiter's attention and showcasing your suitability for the role. By aligning your skills, experiences, and achievements with the specific requirements of the job description, making you a more compelling candidate in the eyes of employers.

Quantify achievements

Whenever possible, use numbers or statistics to quantify your achievements, such as "Increased sales by 20%" or "Managed a team of 10 employees".

Use action verbs

Start bullet points with strong action verbs to convey your responsibilities and accomplishments more effectively, such as "Managed", "Developed", "Implemented", etc.

Include keywords

Incorporate industry-specific keywords and phrases relevant to the job you're applying for to increase the likelihood of your CV standing out among others.

Keep it concise

Aim for a clear and concise CV, typically no longer than two pages. Prioritize relevant information and avoid unnecessary details. A concise CV is more likely to be read in its entirety.

Highlight transferable skills

Showcase transferable skills that are applicable across different roles and industries, such as communication, problem-solving, and leadership.

Include relevant sections

Ensure your CV includes contact information and sections such as, profile, work experience, education, skills, and optionally, additional sections like languages, certifications, volunteer experience, or projects.

Proofread carefully

Thoroughly proofread your CV to eliminate any spelling or grammatical errors. You may also consider having someone else review it for a fresh perspective.

Include a cover letter

Whenever possible, accompany your CV with a tailored cover letter that further highlights your qualifications and interest in the position.

Reverse chronological order

Present your work experience and education in reverse chronological order, starting with the most recent.

Include relevant URLs

If applicable, include links to your professional portfolio, LinkedIn profile, or personal website to provide additional context and showcase your work.

Avoid personal information

Avoid including personal information such as marital status, gender, or hobbies unless directly relevant to the job.

Be honest and transparent

Always be honest and transparent in your CV, accurately representing your qualifications, experiences, and achievements. Misrepresenting information can damage your credibility and jeopardize your chances of success.
